Update: TV ONE takes over TV2 Frequency
New Plymouth Olympic fans will continue to receive TV ONE’s Olympic coverage on the TV2 frequency until at least mid-morning on Friday.
The Mt Taranaki transmitter failed last night due to bad weather, causing about 94,000 people in New Plymouth to lose coverage of the Olympics.
TVNZ shifted transmission to the TV2 frequency on Thursday morning.
An inspection by a Kordia serviceman who reached the site on foot showed water damage, probably from melting snow.
Two Kordia technicians will remain on site overnight.
TVNZ is looking at the possibility of activating a backup transmitter, but will make no change until the reliability of the service is beyond doubt.
The situation will be reviewed mid-morning on Friday.
Taranaki viewers on Freeview or SKY were unaffected.
TVNZ has apologised to TV2 viewers, saying the decision was made because of the huge interest in the Games.
