TV ONE takes over TV2 Frequency
TVNZ has taken the unusual step of shifting TV ONE transmission onto the TV2 frequency in New Plymouth in order to restore Olympic Games coverage to Taranaki people.
The TV ONE transmitter on Mt Taranaki failed last night due to bad weather loosing Olympic coverage for 94,000 people in New Plymouth.
Early this morning, a Kordia serviceman braved high winds, ice and snow to walk to the transmitter site where he has reported extensive water damage.
It is not certain how long it may take to dry out enough to restore transmission, so from midday TV2 transmission was stopped and TV ONE’s Olympic coverage was broadcast on the TV2 channel frequency.
The situation will be reviewed this afternoon.
TVNZ says it apologises to fans of TV2 programming, but in view of the high public interest of the Olympics the decision was made in the best interest of the majority.
